Video of the Week:
Watch this video and tell me what you think? Were you surprised about these famous people? What have you failed at before, to then end up successful? You don't have to think huge, but maybe small. I completely failed the first time my sister and I tried to make pancakes, now I am a master at making pancakes, I can even add blueberries and chocolate chips. Why are people so afraid to fail? What could change this fear?
Failing To Succeed

This video was very surprising to me. I had no idea that those famous people had to go through such a struggle to reach their goals. Me personally, I was a really bad driver when I first got my permit. I then practiced a lot with my mom and now I'm so good I'm street racing on the weekends. I think that people are afraid to fail because they are embarrassed. They don't want to be uncomfortable and would rather not try at all.
ReplyDeleteI thought this video was really interesting. It just shows that everyone fails sometime. When you fail just like that other video you have to come away from the situation positively. When you fail its a learning experience and when you succeed the next time it just shows how dedicated you are to that thing. When I was in gymnastics I had to practice and practice and over come every fail to success.People are afraid to fail because its like defeat in others peoples eyes. Everyone wants to be great and when you fail you look silly in other peoples eyes.
ReplyDeleteI thought this video was very inspiring. It was very surprising to see what difficulties those people had to go through before they became famous. Last fall I was in flagline for the first time. Since I was new, it took me quite a while to perfect the moves in our routines. Sometimes it got really frustrating, but after practicing many times I got a lot better. I think that people are afraid to fail because they are afraid that they might not ever get better. These people need to realize that if they keep trying, then they will get better. It might also help them overcome this fear if they realize how many famous people have also failed at one time.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that a lot of famous people first failed a lot and were told they were no good before they became who they are today. I used to be really bad at studying and did very bad on tests because of it. Then after practicing different ways to study for different tests it ended up getting easier and easier. I also used to be really bad about being open and outgoing around people. It was hard for me to even raise my hand in class. Then i realized asking questions during class and opening up pays off in the end. I think people are afraid to fail because it makes them feel embarassed and they don't want to feel like they aren't good at something like other people.
ReplyDeleteIt surprised me how many different problems and doubts they had, but still achieved their dreams and became famous. I failed a test, but luckily we got to retake it, and I got it all the way up to an A. I also failed at making Kool-Aid one time because I forgot to put sugar in. It was very nasty. Now I know better when I make it. People are afraid to fail because they don't want to be judged and put down. Just by not giving up and succeeding afterwards can change the fear.
ReplyDeleteI reall liked this video. It did surprise me that people like Fred Astaire, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley were rejected many times before they became some of the most famous people ever to live. I think people are afraid to fail because they want to be good at what they love to do and when they are rejected, it lowers there self esteem. I think to change that fear you just need to keep believing in yourself and never give up. Don't listen to those who reject you, but keep on going for your dreams. When I first started putting together my own jewelry-making necklaces and bracelets they looked terrible. I had no idea how to correctly put beads together to make it look good. But I kept trying and I didn't give up and I have learned how to make awesome jewerly. You never would have guessed I had failed so many times before.
ReplyDeleteThis video is very inspirational. Just knowing all of those successful people have once failed and are now just fine shows it can happens to everyone. It really did surprise me that famous people have been rejected many times too. I failed my first test ever this year in math, but I looked over my notes and got to retake it and got a perfect! People are afraid to fail probably because of what people will say or think of them. If people weren't so judge-mental I think people would try more things and not be afraid to fail.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this video! I already knew some of the people in the video had had their fair share of hardships but I did not know that about a lot of the people in the video! I think that maybe hearing people telling them that they weren't good enough made those famous people try even harder to reach their goals and prove those people wrong. This year I just started Irish dancing which is completely different than any other type of dance I've ever done! Being older, I'm in the high school class even though all the other girls have been doing Irish for years! I mess up all the time but that just makes me want to work even harder so I can look as good as the rest of the people in my class!!!
ReplyDeleteThis video really surprised me because I didn't know famous people went through trouble like this. They were struggling but still fought for what they wanted and achieved it. I struggled my freshmen year studying for tests and since my junior year I think I have gotten a lot better because I have been using different study methods to help me do better on them. I think a lot of people are afraid to fail because they are scared what people will think of them or they are just scared in general. I think people should stop caring what people think of them and go for what they want and achieve it.
ReplyDeleteThe most astonishing one to me was that Albert Einstein was said to be unsociable, mentally slow and expelled from school. Look at all he has done today. One thing I have failed at was math. I could never figure it out until the teacher took me one on one and fixed my mental mix up. I am now very good at math.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised, they are all human after all.
ReplyDeleteSome of the ones I was very shocked about were the fact that Marylin Monroe was dropped by her producers because they didn't think she was attractive. Just because she wasn't stick thin and she was a size 14, does not make her unattractive, It makes her beautiful. Also, that Dr.Suess's first book was rejected by 27 publishers before his best friend accepted it. I think people are so scared to fail, because they don't want people around them to make fun of them or tell them that they are not good enough. Society is very cruel and it just keeps getting worse and worse in this world. I honestly think the only things that could change this would be if society changed its ways and opened up their eyes a little and if those scared to fail stopped worrying about what others thought about them.
ReplyDeleteYou can normally learn more from a failure then a success. Most of these people were probably stubborn enough that they were not going to let a failure or someone's opinion change their life. Instead they used it as motivation to do big things. I was surprised about most of these people because I had never heard that about most of them, the one I have heard about before and was not in the video was Michael Jordan who was cut from the varsity basketball team as a sophomore because he was too short and not talented enough. My freshman year I was throwing the discus in varsity meets, but then at the end of the year I lost my spot. Last year I ended up winning at our conference meet and also going to State. People are afraid to fail because they don't want to disappoint themselves or others.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't surprised about these famous people, mainly since I had already heard of most of them. A funny little fail I had was making Kool-Aid. I actually used three packets since I thought the container looked to be about three glasses tall, so I would need three packets of Kool-Aid mix. People are afraid to fail, because failure puts people down when they put effort and try their best, but it really just lets you learn from it. An example being. since my brother lost his license when he was an early driver. (luckily only 3 months till he was 18) I learned from his mistake and tend to be a more careful and less "pedal to the metal."
ReplyDeleteI thought that this was very expiring to see that all these successful people had hard times. It shows that things in life have to go wrong so that things can end up going right. I thought that it was amazing that a person that failed pretty much every grade became a prim minister. The end saying really is true if you never fail you wont succeed.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a valuable thing to think about. None of us should demonize failure, or let it to get to us. We should take it as learning, and allow it to better us.
